Roger Frizzell, who joins PG&E this month, said his focus will be on improving communications with customers and employees.

Frizzell?s credentials include more than 25 years of success leading communications initiatives at premier companies in industries renowned for their intensely competitive focus on customers. Most recently, he was vice president of corporate communications at American Airlines, which he joined in 2003.

?The most successful companies today are those that work night and day to build deep, solid relationships with their customers and employees,? said Frizzell. ?A big part of that is a commitment to great communications ? constantly listening and talking with them openly, honestly and directly about the issues that matter to us both.?

At PG&E, Frizzell says, his priorities will include continuing to find opportunities to share how PG&E is improving customer service as it works to ensure the public of the safety of its gas system.

Frizzell, who will report to Greg Pruett, PG&E Corporation?s senior vice president of corporate affairs, will oversee internal and external communications, online communications and advertising at PG&E.

?I?m excited to be joining the strong team at PG&E that is dedicated to getting this great utility back on track,? Frizzell said. ?I share the company?s commitment to raising the bar on public safety and customer service, and look forward to communicating its great story.?

?Roger?s exceptional talents are proven by his outstanding track record at several of America?s leading companies,? Pruett said. ?Beyond winning the admiration of his peers at those companies and in the business communications profession, he has earned the respect of reporters and editors, union officials and employees for his integrity and professionalism.?

Pruett added the Frizzell ?will make a great contribution to PG&E as we continue communicating our plans and progress to customers, employees, the media and other stakeholders.?

At American Airlines, Frizzell led a staff of 130. He was responsible for corporate communications, marketing communications, community citizenship, and the company?s publications. He used communications programs to build employee engagement through periods of rapid and stressful change in the airline industry and to focus the entire organization on improving the customer experience.

In a blog post last week on Frizzell?s pending departure from American Airlines, Dallas Morning News reporter Terry Maxon said, ?He was highly respected by reporters for honesty and integrity. Within the limits of his job, he did what he could to help us accurately and fairly report the American Airlines story.?

Previously, Frizzell helped lead communications for Compaq Computer during its merger with and subsequent integration into Hewlett-Packard?s $40 billion computer business. Over the span of his career, which includes time at Lucent and Western Electric, Frizzell and his teams won more than 150 awards, including the National Golden Quill Award from the International Association of Business Communicators and PR Week?s Corporate Public Relations Team of the Year.

Frizzell is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma where he was an All-American wrestler. He is married and has five children.
