Kentucky looked like a real football team on Tuesday night as the players walked back to the Nutter Center from a ?dress rehearsal? of sorts at Commonwealth Stadium. The Cats were in full pads and in their new uniforms, which looked nice.
Coach Joker Phillips referred to the night?s events as a mock scrimmage, pre-season game for UK, which focused on things like game day organization, how they stretch, take the field, etc.
?You don?t want it to be a shock the first time you take the field together as a team,? he said. ?We need to look sharp. We need to look organized and I thought we did tonight.?
Other news of note:
- Embattled defensive tackle Mark Crawford, who was suspended twice last season, will sit out the first game versus Western as he tries to do what Phillips has asked him to do. ?He?s done some of the things we?ve asked and they?ve been good, but we will probably withhold him from the first game,? the coach said.
- Phillips said this about potential red-shirts on the team: ?There?s a couple that?s on the fence. A lot of it has to do with how healthy we come out the first couple of games. ? Some guys are right on the edge of playing or not playing depending on how healthy we stay.?
